ADC’s Solaris dryers will save you more than 30% in dryer utility costs compared to

similar capacity dryers. Their compact design keeps the heat inside the dryer tumbler

where it belongs, allowing them to use less energy without sacrificing drying times!

Solaris dryers come equipped with our Sensor Activated Fire Extinguishing (S.A.F.E.)

system. Numerous other features ensure drying safety, reliability, and efficiency.

At ADC, we know that performance is paramount.

What options are available with Solaris?

All SL dryers come standard with microprocessors and stainless steel baskets. The 50- and 75-lb capacity dryers are also equipped with single-phase reversing baskets. (Single-phase reversing is an option on 20- and 30-lb single or dual pocket dryers).

Why is Solaris only available with a microprocessor?

ADC was the very first company to introduce microprocessors on drying tumblers. We have developed a system that is both reliable and simple to use. The microprocessor provides system diagnostics for ease of service while at the same time taking the guesswork out of the drying process. The microprocessor provides auto dry capabilities for better performance and efficiency, and pre-programmed cycles for a one-touch operation. Timers just cannot provide the benefits of this sophisticated technology.

What is the standard finish on a Solaris tumbler?

The front panel of the dryer is white. The control panel, sides and top of the dryer are black, with baked on powder coated cold rolled steel. All panels are available in stainless steel as an option.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Solaris line is equipped with the safety features that ADC customers have come to rely on.

What is Solaris?

Solaris (SL) is the latest innovation from ADC, the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial tumbler dryers. ADC recognized the need for more efficient drying tumblers and developed a unique system that maintains drying performance while providing unmatched efficiency. Solaris machines are available in 20-lb capacity up through and including 75-lb capacity. They are fully loaded with numerous standard features.

Why is Solaris more efficient?

Through extensive development and laboratory testing, ADC has created a unique drying tumbler that maximizes the balance of heat and airflow. 100% axial airflow tumbler design utilizes more of the warm air and prevents “skirting” that is typical of radial or partial axial airflow machines. Other designs allow heat to dissipate or escape around the basket, however, the 100% axial airflow pattern forces all of the heat through the load without heat loss. With better heat usage, greater efficiency is achieved without sacrificing dry times.

What is the S.A.F.E. system?

S.A.F.E. – Sensor Activated Fire Extinguishing system was designed and patented by ADC. The S.A.F.E. feature quickly recognizes any abnormal rise in temperature and safely extinguishes a fire condition. The system uses a minimal amount of water, which in turn minimizes damage and clean up. The patented system will activate whether the unit is running or idle. It will also shut itself off once fire has been extinguished. In the event of re-ignition, the system will reactivate. A message will be clearly displayed to alert the operator that there was a fire condition.

Do I have to connect the S.A.F.E. system?

For coin-operated dryers the S.A.F.E. system is an option. For OPL (on-premises laundries, non-coin) the S.A.F.E. system is required to be connected to a water source.

Are Solaris stack dryers available in reversing?

Yes, only ADC offers a reversing stack dryer. And the microprocessor can be programmed to charge more for a reversing cycle.

I have noticed that there are preset factory programs for both the automatic and manual cycles. Can these be changed? And if so, how?

The factory preset cycles are only guidelines based on general user feedback. However, any of these programs can be changed to eitheran auto dry feature or a manual time and temperature program. Both auto dry and manual dry still allow the user one-touch operation. Please consult the program manual for further details.

What is the advantage of single-phase reversing?

Recognizing the importance of reversing baskets, ADC developed a system that will allow reversing to be available no matter what electrical service is present. Previously, three-phase power was required, limiting many locations based on their electrical service. Now, virtually any location can benefit from the advantages of the reversing feature without the costly expenses of an electrical service upgrade.

Why is it better to choose a reversing model?

Reversing models provide a faster more efficient drying process for larger items, which prevents balling and roping. By reversing the tumbler, it breaks up larger items so warm air can effectively move through the load and dry more effectively.

Can I change the programming of the coin microprocessor to start at different amounts?

Yes. The microprocessor allows the laundry owner the flexibility to safely and securely program any desired amount and any desired time, which best fits their applications. Programming is simple; please consult your installation manual for instructions.

Do you make a dryer that will fit through a 36” door?

Yes. The SL range dryers start at 20-lb and go up to and include the 50-lb capacity dryer. All of these models will fit through a standard 36” door. The SL50 requires the simple removal of the back guard assembly. In addition, ADC manufactures the AD-78, the only 75-lb dryer to fit through a 36” door.

What is anti-wrinkle and can I disable this feature?

The anti-wrinkle feature reduces the amount of wrinkles in the clothing by periodically tumbling the clothing without heat after the drying cycle is complete. The machine will do so until the load is removed. A second benefit of the anti-wrinkle feature is the reduced basket temperature if items are left unattended. Anti-wrinkle also reduces the risk of spontaneous combustion. This anti-wrinkle feature cannot be programmed out. It is an integral part of the dryer’s operation and its safety features.

Is the Solaris door opening reversible?

Yes. All Solaris tumblers can be ordered with either a left or right hinge. Field retrofit is also extremely simple.

Is there a trunnion assembly with the Solaris tumblers?

No. The SL units utilize an industrial four-point roller wheel design that supports the stainless steel basket. This durable heavy duty design provides for smooth and quiet operation, as well as, ease of serviceability.

Globar vs. Spark Ignition

All Solaris dryers use the Globar® ignition system. For many years ADC used the Direct Spark Ignition (DSI) system for igniting gas. DSI systems are used on radial airflow dryers that cycle frequently. Radial airflow dryers cycle frequently because hot air bypasses the load going directly to the temperature sensor, this fools the control and causes the machine to cycle. All Solaris dryers have 100% axial airflow and rarely cycle. DSI ignition systems produce a spark at 20,000 volts. High voltage sparks damage computers and microcontrollers. ADC has found the Globar® system to be more reliable, easier to service and less expensive to maintain. DSI systems ignite gas in about 2-seconds, Globars® take about 12-seconds. ADC still uses DSI on all its radial airflow dryers including sizes from 100 lb to 700 lb capacity.

What is the pedestal option and do I require it?

The pedestal option allows the user to raise the height of their dryer for the convenience of loading and unloading. 11” height pedestals are available, depending on your specific requirements and can be stacked for a total of 22”. The pedestal is fabricated/constructed of black painted cold rolled steel and is shipped in knockdown form for easy assembly on-site.

Can Solaris dryers be shipped assembled on their pedestals?

The Solaris cabinet was designed to provide ease of handling and flexibility with regard to installation. ADC can factory mount and ship on (1) 11” pedestal.
